CURRENTS

January 5, 2007

1st Weekly Edition                                             2007 GRR CURRENTS

RETURN OF THE CURRENTS

GRR CURRENTS will be published every Friday and an email with the link will be sent to all clergy, congregations, and leadership lists that we have in the office.  It is our hope that those receiving the CURRENTS will forward the link to church lists and friends, or print it to share at church.

If you would like to send us email addresses of those who should receive the CURRENTS, send an email  to currents@grrcc.org with the addresses to add. No one beyond staff in the regional office has access to these email addresses, and we send them as a blind copy so that addresses do not show.

To submit news or information of interest to Disciples in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, send the information or attach it to the same email address:  currents@grrcc.org.

NEWS & ACTIVITIES

From Barbara Jones:  I’m excited about the return of the CURRENTS.  I really hope this is a tool to help you connect with everything going on in the region.  I’m also in the process of revamping our webpage.  It looks different, and is “almost” there, but I’m still adding features and checking links.  This month I’ll be out and about quite a bit.  You may know that I’m chair for the Committee on Renewal and Structural Reform for the CCDOC, and next week we will be working with final proposals on the future of Church Finance Council, anticipating that its ministries will be rolled into other existing ministries of the church.  This, and our revision of the Standing Rules of the Administrative Committee of the General Board, the Special Rules of Procedure for the General Assembly, and the Standing Rules for the General Board all have to be revised and in accord with the new DESIGN by the end of this month in order to be presented to the General Assembly in July.

From Rick Hamilton:  There is renewal and revision activity going on all around us. In the last three weeks, I have heard from and or have been actively working with the following churches on a new vision for their operating structures:  Hot Springs First; Monroe First; Russellville First; and National Park/Spring Valley in Hot Springs.  This is a renewal of the Holy Spirit’s doing.  Churches opening themselves to new and exciting ways of doing mission and ministry are all around us.  “Behold, God IS doing a new thing – do you perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19)

Congregations in Search Process working with Rick Hamilton:

  • Bentonville, AR:  Elm Tree CC - Pastor
  • Jackson, MS:  First CC – Pastor
  • Shreveport, LA:  Kings Highway CC – Youth Minister
  • Weiner, AR:  First CC – Interim Pastor
  • Westpoint, MS:  First CC – Pastor

(Inquiries should be directed to Rick in Confidence)
